Blowin' in the Wind, Special Issue What Olympic weather to expect this year - Feb 1, 2010
February 01, 2010
Hello ,

Olympic Weather - Vancouver 2010

Are we concerned about Olympic weather? I almost forgot, the Olympic Games are in Vancouver this year from February 12 to 28, with the Paralympics in mid-March.

Brave enough to come to Canada in the Winter? We should start with a summary of the Vancouver climate to show you what is normally considered possible for this time of year in the region. This list of weather events, provided by Environment Canada, should let you know what you can expect during these two months.

British Columbia Weather Forecasts

This BC map and list of cities, also provided by Environment Canada, will give you the current six-day forecasts for many places in the province. Use these to find out the latest weather observed and predicted weather. If you want temperatures in Fahrenheit, click the little blue "°C" after the large temperature display for each location.

British Columbia is a large piece of land, 750 miles long from the US north to the Yukon border.

Here is the current weather forecast for Vancouver as well as Whistler. Is there precipitation in the area right now? This Vancouver radar diagram shows the latest reflections within at least 100 miles of Vancouver (160 km). It updates every 10 minutes and you can animate it with a click of a button.

Here is the Satellite image for BC that can also be animated by hitting the "play" button and the Vancouver Olympic weather picture is updated every hour. BC is on the left with Alberta next to it and Washington to the south of BC. Vancouver is on the southwest corner of the mainland. The large island is called Vancouver Island and is home to the provincial capital, Victoria, BC.

Do you understand Aviation weather code?

If so, have a look at the METARs and TAF for the Vancouver International Airport CYVR. If you don't know how to read them, I explain it on my TAF and METAR page.
