The Problem with Global Warming?

The Problem with Global Warming?

The increase in global temperature due to an increase in green house gases is called Global warming.

Because of global warming, the polar ice caps are melting, and this will result in a larger and higher amounts of coastal waters, and it also produces extremes of drought and rainfall which will disrupt food production.

What to Expect; What to Do

The IPCC is researching on this climate change and have found that over the twenty first century the temperature will increase over 1.4 to 5.8 degree C.

SO LETS START TO AVOID AS MUCH AS MATERIALS WHICH AFFECT THE ATMOSPHERE END LETS START TO SAVE OUR EARTH!

Barry's Response - The problem with global warming, it seems, is the worry it is causing us. We will find out if there are any other problems associated with it later. We know the measured temperatures have increased over the past decades and shall find out what that implies. Thanks for the input Betsy.

It's deeper than you think

Climate change. Those two words can freeze a conversation faster than a polar vortex. It's not the temperature that's the problem, it's how we think about it.

According to meteorology and climate science, Earth's atmosphere has never been static. Humans built smokestacks, but before that, the planet swayed to the rhythms of the sun, orbital cycles, volcanic eruptions, and ocean currents. Nature's wild experiments include a Medieval Warm Period (900-1300 AD) and a Little Ice Age (1300-1850 AD).

A Puzzle

Since the 19th century, the Earth has warmed about 1°C. A jigsaw of factors is driving this warming:
- Greenhouse gases trap infrared radiation.
- There's also solar radiation fluctuation (sunspots).
- Ocean currents transport heat around the world.
- The planet is also cooled by natural aerosols (like volcanic dust).

Air quality science reminds us that human activities emit pollutants like black carbon, which warms the atmosphere and dims the sun. It's okay to be complex.

Climate discourse simplifies too much, creating an almost religious alarmism. Fear can paralyze innovation.

Another Approach

Individuals and nations could adapt thoughtfully, clean their air, innovate sustainably, and embrace stewardship without surrendering to political agendas with a science of freedom.

There's a connection between air quality and climate change because particulates and gases (like black carbon, methane, sulfur dioxide) both affect warming. CO2 isn't toxic and invisible at current levels, but other pollutants make the air hazardous and affect cloud formation, solar reflection, and rainfall. Controlling air pollution makes a big difference locally and eases climate concerns. It's a two-fer!

I'll leave you with this

We're not helpless victims of global warming. We're stewards, innovators, and sometimes healers.

Good starting point for thinking about issue
by: Anonymous

I think we need to know a little bit more about both sides of this argument. There is some evidence that global warming is part of the earth's natural cycle.

From Barry - You're right. Global warming - or more specifically, global temperature variability - has a natural cycle component. Earth's Milankovitch Cycles (wobbles and tilts in its orbit and axis) drive long-term climate patterns like ice ages. Temperatures are also influenced by solar activity, like the 11-year sunspot cycle. We live on a planet that breathes hot and cold naturally thanks to El Niño and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation.

Here's the twist: overlaid on that natural rhythm, recent decades have seen faster warming and major increases in greenhouse gas concentrations. Is it just natural? I don't think so. Is it all manmade? If we look at historical variability, it's also questionable. We need to weigh both sides, not just the politically convenient one.

Global Warming

I'm happy that people are finally starting to worry about global warming. Maybe something will be finally done about it.

From Barry - Worry can move mountains - but only if we channel it into smart action. When humans rely on data-driven innovation, they can adapt to changing climates. Cleaner technologies, better land management, and smarter city design (cool roofs, urban trees, etc.) all help. Let's plant, invent, build, and yes, even laugh at ourselves sometimes. Don't panic. Persist.

Good Idea, but....
by: Sciencegeek

Global warming is a real problem, but this article is poorly written. Not only is the grammar abysmal, but there is no substance to the article.

From Barry - Yeah, you're right too. A good argument needs a good structure, just like a storm needs well-organized convection to turn into a hurricane. Clear, careful communication is key to scientific literacy. To convince skeptics and inspire action, we need to write like the reader's trust is precious. Grammar matters, just like accurate climate models. Thank you for pushing for clarity and precision!
