hmm... stuck again.

Movie Myths and Climate Truths - Have you ever wondered why some people see a sunset and think of beauty and others see a warning sign? We're about to decode the pictures that tell our changing home's story.

Let's start with K: Your information helped me a lot on a science sheet i had to do. Your website should have more information on radiation and greenhouse gases or the greenhouse effect. thank u!;D

Barry's Response - Well, it ain't a mystery no more. I provide information that helps students quite frequently. I glad ya 'ppreciate it.

The blanket theory of global warming - I'm glad you didn't lose to that science sheet, K! You asked about radiation and the greenhouse effect.

Imagine the Earth as a car in the sun. Glass windows let light in, but they trap heat. Our atmosphere is made up of gases like water vapor and CO2. Earth would freeze into a giant popsicle without this blanket.

Skeptics, however, say the blanket is mostly water vapor (H2O), which is more powerful than CO2. Solar Irradiance is the actual wattage the sun sends our way if you want to know more. It's like the sun turns up the dimmer switch sometimes!

THIS IS DUMB :D

Barry's Response - How Dumb? If those colours are natural, rather than the product of photographic filtration, this makes for quite an impressive display.

As you might know...Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in morning - sailors take warning.

That's dumb, huh? - Even a dumb sky looks pretty with complex physics. Sunsets have that red glow because of Mie scattering and Rayleigh scattering. By filtering out the blue light, the air molecules let the red wavelengths through. The atmosphere looks like it's wearing sunglasses.

Remember that air pollution from nearby cities can actually make sunsets look more dramatic because the extra particles scatter even more light. Here's where air quality consulting comes in - experts measure those particles to make sure we're not breathing poisonous air.

good site

A snapshot of the homepage

A snapshot of the homepage

for use in study.

Barry's Response - Yes, thank you Gurpreet. Parts of this website are quite useful for those studying meteorology, and in fact have evolved from my academic studies in meteorology.

Have a look at the site map for more.

Gurpreet, stay curious! - You could use a site like this for your studies. Meteorology is just physics with a crazy personality.

A homepage snapshot shows the big picture, but the real science is in the Thermohaline Circulation. This is the giant conveyor belt that moves heat around the world. Everything changes if that belt slows down.

Earth's climate is way more stable than scary movies suggest, thanks to negative feedback loops that keep the planet cool. Make sure you check the data!

Crocodile Hunter - Collisions Course

global warming

Barry's Response
Steve tries to rescue a croc that had previously swallowed an American device. He then mistakes the CIA agents who come to get the beacon for poachers. I've never seen this picture and do not know how it relates to global warming, but it could be a good one for the kids anyway.

Alex, Steve Irwin was a legend! - An eco-resilient crocodile movie might seem random, but it's actually about ecosystem resilience. Animals have to move or adapt when the climate changes. When a croc's home gets too hot or too dry, they move. We track these indicator species in environmental science to see how the world is changing.

The Day After Tomorrow makes it look like the world freezes in ten minutes, but science moves much slower. There's less of a collision course and more of a slow dance between the sun, the oceans, and the land.

pavan

i cant study well.

Barry's Response - Spend a little more time hitting the books, I suppose.

Pick a subject that interests you. For me it was math, science, physics, and eventually meteorology.

Pavan, study fatigue is real! - It's usually because you haven't found the "why" yet if you don't study well. Meteorology is like a puzzle. Why does it rain in Bagalkot but not elsewhere?

All it takes is adiabatic cooling - air rises, expands, cools, and dumps its water. Try looking at the music instead of the math. Storms have a rhythm, and the wind has a frequency.

As soon as you realize the world is a giant, living machine, books stop being a chore and start being a manual.

A surprise in space

A surprise in space

From China

it's very intreset

Barry's Response Presumably a Martian exploration vehicle, right Hou?

Can't help thinking it resembles a CG drawing of a 22nd century skateboard or something.

Is there a skateboard on Mars? - That would be awesome! Mars is the ultimate air quality cautionary tale. With a super thin atmosphere made mostly of CO2, it doesn't have a magnetic shield to keep the sun from stealing its air.

Because of our magnetic field, our atmosphere is thick and protective. Whenever we look for life on other planets, we look for biosignatures - gases that prove something is breathing. It doesn't matter if you're looking at Mars or Earth...we need to understand the air to survive. Space exploration gives us the ability to realize how lucky we are to have a blue sky instead of a dusty red one.

Why You Should Join the Conversation

Climate change isn't just about politicians in suits; it's about the air you breathe and the world you'll inherit. It takes brave thinkers to look at the data, challenge mainstream scary stories, and find the real truth. No matter what you think, your observations matter.
